Nominations aux Tony Awards 2010 : "Fela!" et "La Cage aux Folles" tirent leur épingle du jeu

Musical Avenue vous présente la liste complète des nominations aux Tony Awards 2010. La 64ème cérémonie annuelle de remise des célèbres récompenses aura lieu le 13 juin 2010 au Radio City Hall de New York. Comme tous les ans, la retransmission télévisée sera assurée par CBS aux États-Unis. Musical Avenue sera bien sûr là pour commenter les résultats.

Le cru 2010 des Tony devrait permettre à plusieurs pièces et musicals de se distinguer : Fela! (une création sur la vie du musicien nigérian Fela Kuti) et La Cage aux Folles (une reprise très attendue cette saison) obtiennent tous deux 11 nominations. Fences, une pièce non musicale, récolte 10 nominations. Suivent Memphis (que nous annoncions dès 2008 et bientôt sur grand écran) et Ragtime (une autre reprise) avec respectivement 8 et 7 chances de remporter une récompense.
Grands perdants de ce pré-palmarès : A Little Night Music et Promises, Promises (seulement 4 nominations). The Addams Family n'est nominée que 2 fois.

On notera la nouvelle direction que semble prendre Broadway avec des shows très orientés rock 'n' roll, blues et jazz, s'éloignant donc de plus en plus des showtunes dits classiques dans la grande tradition du musical américain. Si les nominations de American Idiot (l'adaptation de l'album concept du groupe de rock américain Green Day) et Million Dollar Quartet (une adaptation du fameux concert d'Elvis Presley, Jerry Lee Lewis, Carl Perkins et Johnny Cash en 1956) sont pour le moins innattendues, elles promettent un beau suspense lorsque viendra le moment de remettre les distinctions dans 39 jours !
